Such a beautiful autumn day
Americans left for work
Kissed their families goodbye
Kids went to school
Early whispers between adults in classrooms
Doors locked, panic kept quiet inside
Teachers became the ultimate protectors
Not knowing what would come next
In elementary and middle schools
In high schools and colleges, eyes on TVs
8:46, 9:03, 9:37, 10:07
Gone were our towers
Changed were our perspectives
Goodbye forever
children
fathers
mothers
grandparents
uncles
aunts
cousins
dear friends
coworkers
American lives
Pictures of faces with names
Held by loved ones who carry their memories
Never forgotten
That time
Color, beliefs, and self interests
Put aside it all to come together
For our great nation
Remembered once a year
What we stand for
We are United
Here in America
Such a beautiful autumn day
16 years later

Today we honor all those who perished and all those who came and continue to come together to protect one another in times of devastation. Never forget the power of humanity and its importance.
